» Lefty Meme Congeals: The Real War Is In Pakistan Not Afghanistan
But this time they pinky swear they'll be enthusiastic about supporting any US war effort. Not like when they promised to support "the necessary war" in Afghanistan if only we would abandon Iraq. For realsies this time.
I have two problems with the title of this one. One, the lefty meme never congeals, it always remains fluid. Two, for the lefty there is no real war. Well, with real enemies of America anyway. Their real war is against their own country, against the foundational doctrines and institutions that made America what it is and not what they want it to be. Their public agenda, or meme, will always change as necessary to maintain some illusion that they really care whether America is safe from external threat.
why should Democrats have to run on what they actually intend to do? If they did that they might never get elected.
...
Of course changing circumstances require changing tactics, and if the left was making that argument it'd be a different debate. But that's not the argument they're making. They're not saying the Taliban or Al Qaeda have become less "the people who attacked us on 9/11," which was one of the left's tropes ad nauseam during the campaign. Instead they're saying - explicitly - that Afghanistan's just not that important. Now it's true that Obama convinced the American people to trust him as Commander in Chief by saying the exact opposite. But the left didn't really believe him at the time - they know Democrats have to say moderate-sounding things to get elected, and they don't hold that against them - so what's the big deal if he flip-flops now?
» New York State Is So Broke It Steals From Itself To Pay Off Unapproved Debt
It aint just NY. All 50 57 states are in danger of bankruptcy - Total brokedness. All the money ... eet iz gone!
» California to withhold a bigger chunk of paychecks
Technically, it's not a tax increase ... the state is taking more money now in withholding, even though workers' annual tax bills won't change.
The genius of it all! Brilliant! Sorry we doubted you!
Don't raise taxes, that's too much trouble - with all the legislation, bill writing, arguing and then having to deal with all those danged ole naysaying voters...
Just take what you need off the top, call it a with-holding adjustment or sumthin, and promise to give it back on the next round of tax refunds in April.
If by chance, come April, the state is even more brokerer than now, then they ... can ....
just, uh ....
raise taxes! yea! that'll work.
The extra withholding comes in addition to tax hikes the state enacted this year.
Oops. I mocked too soon. Shoulda read the whole thing first.
California will probably continue to collect the tax at a higher rate for many years -- or find an additional $1.7 billion to slice from a future budget, an unlikely occurrence. All workers who have state taxes withheld will see their paychecks shrink.
It's time to take a sober and logical look at at the situations in states like CA and NY, and cities like Deadtroit, Michigan: Their entire system runs on the money of rich people. They run out of money, so obviously they've run out of rich people. That means the rich people are lying or running ... selfish bastards. Build a fence. Yea, to keep the rich people from escaping their responsibilities - with one-way gates that allow in the undocumented democrats, then ....
I'm sorry folks. I said 'sober' and 'logical' then lapsed right back into statist, liberal-think.
I'm done with this one.
» SEIU Needs Socialized Medicine To Stoke Its Underfunded Pensions
Why is the SEIU so desperate for socialized medicine? Put simply, union bosses appear to be underfunding their members' pensions, deliberately and systematically, while enriching their own plans. And someone has to make up the shortfall.
And the SEIU appears to be one of the worst at this practice. Aside from being a major supporter of the far left Democrat agenda, it is tied to ACORN, the sleazy crew of community agitators. So the act of skirting ethical, legal and moral roadblocks wouldn't appear to be virgin territory for this lot.
While the union blames market conditions, actual fund performance metrics demonstrate that this is not the case. It appears, instead, that the playing field has been tilted to reward the union bosses and union employees at the expense of the rank-and-file.
Socialized medicine is a Democrat payoff to union bosses, who fear what will happen when the massive pension disparity between workers and bosses becomes widely known.
Considering how important it is to keep our socialist, union leeches alive and healthy, I say give 'em what they want and need. some billions here, some billions there, oh heck man, just give em the state of NY. We can't seem to keep it working anyway.
» Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich: The Visionary and the Hack
Now that an intense internecine battle is raging over how Republicans should react to Doug Hoffman's Conservative Party bid for New York's 23rd , one thing is certain: it is Newt whose reputation is in shambles, and it is he who should seek political advice from Palin as to how he might regain his lost stature. And this will remain true whether Mr. Hoffman wins or loses.
By unconditionally supporting the Republican machine candidate Dede Scozzafava -- one of the most liberal candidates ever offered by the party in any race -- Newt has forfeited any remnant of respect he might have retained as the standard-bearer of the conservative congressional revolution of 1994.
... Sarah Palin just compiles conservative esteem ...
... Palin argued with deep philosophical references to conservative ideals ...
... Palin evoked Ronald Reagan ...
... Palin is bringing us back to the principled, universal roots that Reagan shared with the Founders ...
There's a message in all that for the Republican Party, if we can just figger out what it is.
The elephant said "oh, there's a pain between my ears".
